Franchising with Martin & Co
Launched in Yeovil in 1986, Martin & Co grew quickly and Richard Martin began offering training courses to prospective letting agents. Inspired by the book ‘Behind the Golden Arches' (McDonalds) and requests from his course delegates to licence his business system Richard Martin decided to go down the franchise route in the mid 1990s. Neither he nor the company has looked back since.
Martin & Co is growing fast across all regions of the country and the distinctive brand and reputation has taken root. The franchise model of business is working well as people want to be part of the success but Franchising is very much a partnership - the franchisor, as the senior partner, provides its know-how and expertise and the franchisee provides the drive, commercial flair and a local flavour for the business.
Martin & Co franchisees get help with:
- development of a 5-year business plan
- an exclusive territory (allocated by postcodes)
- funding and finding suitable commercial premises
- shop fitting
- staff recruitment
- training and ongoing support to manage and run a successful lettings business
The franchise operates on an exclusive territory basis, allocated by postcodes. The franchise agreement is for 5 years, and is automatically renewable, with no further franchise fee to pay providing the franchisee is compliant with the terms of the agreement.
Franchising enables someone to start up on their own business and lock-in to a huge support network. With a structured pattern of growth - it eliminates much of the stress, worry and uncertainty of going it alone - which can be a lonely and highly risky route.
Martin & Co (UK) Ltd has been accredited with full membership from The British Franchise Association (bfa). This means the business has been vetted against a strict code of business practice in addition to proving that the systems and process are well established. The business consistently reviews these and investigates improvements to the benefit of the franchisees.
